FREEZONE Success in Good Neighbour Tournament

Nov 27th saw Freezone sending 3 teams off to two tournaments around Australia with Kinnaree and Freespirit playing at the Good Neighbour Tournament in Canberra, ACT and SS FFS playing in the Parri Estate Tournament hosted by Adelaide Spikers in South Australia!

Freespirit proved the champions of the weekend taking out the Div 4 Champions title at the GNT. Kinnaree placed a respectable 5th suffering the ignominy of losing a ‘golden point’ after a tied semi final! Both teams topped their pools and were heading for a repeat of last years ALL FREEZONE FINAL!

Julias Grant, Captain of Freespirit said that the team had to “dig deep” and utilise all thier stratagems without just going for the ‘kill kill kill’ approach. Julias cited team spirit, vociferous support and hard work at training saw them triumph in the final against the Newcastle Blue Tongues. After a tough semi final against the Flying Puzza Brothers, there was only a 30minute turn around and Freespirit were back on court in the grand Final. A tightly contested final saw Freespirit take the lead in the first set ‘taking the level up another notch’ to win, and then consolidating in the 2nd set to take out the title. Another win to Freezone in the GNT.

SS FFS competed at the Adelaide Parri Estate tournament which saw the most amount of teams in some time at this annual tournament hosted by the Adelaide Spikers. A very cold Mount Lofty Sports Complex was a wonderful venue that saw all teams playing in a round robin and then being split into A, B and C grade finals. SS FFS finished a slightly dissapointing 8th in B grade but more than made up for our performance in volleyball with the loudest chanting and vociferous vocal performance!!!!

Freezone Volleyball has once again proven that we are able to get out and PLAY with the best of them and have a ball at the same time, representing our community whilst competing at a competitive level in the wider sports community!

Congratulations to all players and teams that did so well over the weekend. WE look forward to more champion titles in 2011!
